Golf Handicaps Certificates: Be sure to bring a handicap certificate from your home pro/club as some courses require them. Distances are measured in meters so add about 15 percent to get a sense of yardage. Golf Attire: Traditional golf attire is acceptable. Golf Carts and Caddies: Electric carts, called buggies, are not often used in Spain or Portugal. Pullcarts, called a trolley, and buggies, when available, can be rented. We will be glad to quote a price if you want to reserve a buggie. However, certain courses, such as Montemayor which follows valleys and climbs mountains, require them. In this case, the buggie is included in the greens fee charge. Passport and Visa Requirements: Passports are required. Tipping: Restaurants and hotels include service charges in bills. Add 10-15 percent more is service is especially good. Taxes: A Value Added Tax (VAT) of 16 percent is applied to purchases. Most of the VAT is refundable. Keep receipts for presentation at the airport. Voltage: 220 volts. A converter and adapter plug are necessary. Baggage restrictions: The airline baggage allowance is two bags per person, including a golf bag. We recommend that you use a special padded golf club carry case to protect your clubs. Baggage is at "owner's risk" throughout the surface portion of the trip; insurance is recommended. Contact your airlines for specific restriction and requirements. Business Hours: Many large stores and business in large cities remain open throughout the day. Most others close from 1 pm to 4 pm. Banks are generally open 9:30 am to 2 pm. Dining Hours: Restaurants are usually opened for lunch (often the main meal of the day) from 1 pm to 4 pm. Dinner hours vary between 9 pm and midnight. For those who wish to eat earlier, snack bars, cafes, and fast food restaurants are open between 5 pm and 8 pm. Many bars serve tapas -- appetizers. Climate: Spain and Portugal are too large a land mass to generalize about weather. However, southern Spain, Costa del Sol, and Portugal have year-round golf weather and are ideal golf destinations. While it seldom rains in the golf areas of Spain and Portugal, if rain forces a course to close and you are not able to use a rain check for another time, retain the rain check issued by the course. Upon your return, forward the rain check to us for refund of the greens fee. No refund will be allowed without the course's rain check authorizing the refund.
