Golf Handicap Certificates: Certificates are generally not required in France.

Golf Attire: Soft spikes are recommended as more and more courses require them. Long pants and collared shirts are the norm. Short pants are acceptable if they are "long" enough.

Golf Carts and Caddies: Motorized carts are generally available at 30-40 Euros per cart. When available, they should be reserved in advance. Courses near Paris (Fontainbleau, Chantilly, National and St. Germaine) do not have carts; caddies are usually available, but cannot be guaranteed. Payment is made directly at the course. We will be happy to help you with reservations.

Passport and Visa Requirements: Passports are required; visas are not.

Tipping: Restaurants and bars often add a service charge of 10-15 percent to bills. Some smaller ones do not; a 15 percent tip is then appropriate. Add about 3-5 percent tip for good service to the service charge already included in restaurant bills.

Taxes: A value added sales tax (VAT), in addition to the service charge, is added to most merchandise and services. It can be reclaimed at the airport or through the mail.

Currency and Money: The Euro is now the currency in France. Some hotels are authorized to exchange money; Credit Mutuel and Credit Agricole also exchange currency. Stores are prohibited by law from accepting foreign money. Major credit cards are generally accepted as are travelers checks.

Voltage: 220 volts. It is recommended that you take a transformer and adapter.

Baggage: Baggage restrictions: The airline baggage allowance is two bags per person, including a golf bag. We recommend that you use a special padded golf club carry case to protect your clubs. Baggage is at "owner's risk" throughout the surface portion of the trip; insurance is recommended. Contact your airlines for specific restrictions and requirements.

Climate: France enjoys a varied climate as you travel from the Mediterranean to Paris and the north. The Riviera enjoys a Mediterranean climate with the average high temperatures reaching 80 degrees in the summer. Rainfall is low in June, July and August with the rainy season starting in the Fall. The Atlantic Ocean influences the weather of Bordeaux, Biarritz and coastal regions where temperatures are moderate (average summer highs are about 80 degrees) and rainfall distributed throughout the year. Paris and its environs average 75-80 degrees in the summer and 3 inches of rain per month. The northern regions of France, including Normandy, experience a temperate climate with milder temperatures and somewhat higher rainfall than southern France. Keep in mind that August is vacation time for the French.
